All genuine diamonds are basically carbon, which in nature has been heated and compressed over millions of years by the earth. Memorial Diamonds (sometimes called 'Cremation Diamonds') made in a laboratory are made of extracted carbon which has been heated and compressed - but over months not years. The process of turning ashes or hair into diamonds results in a raw diamond crystal which is cut and polished in exactly the same way that natural diamonds have for centuries, to be mounted in a ring, pendant or memorial jewellery.

Memorial Diamonds are very valuable. They are extremely difficult to tell from mined diamonds and replicate the rarest of coloured diamonds found in nature, but they are manufactured by man without the stigma of blood, sweat and the massive upheaval of the earth – referred to as 'Blood Diamonds' which in some cases may have supported wars, torture and terrorism.
